CVE-2024-24974 is an access control vulnerability in the Windows interactive service component of OpenVPN, affecting OpenVPN 2.6.9 and earlier. The flaw is present in the privileged OpenVPN service and allows unauthorized remote access to the Windows named pipe used for service communication. By accessing the service pipe, an attacker can interact with the privileged OpenVPN interactive service and invoke operations through that interface. The issue is rooted in insufficient restriction of access to the service communication channel, exposing privileged service functionality to an attacker who should not be able to reach it.
