CVE-2024-26640 is a vulnerability in the Linux kernel's TCP receive (rx) zerocopy implementation. The flaw arises because the kernel allowed mapping of pages owned by a filesystem (such as ext4) into the TCP rx zerocopy path, which is only intended for pages allocated by NIC drivers. Specifically, the can_map_frag() function did not check if the page was a compound page or if page->mapping was non-NULL, leading to the possibility of mapping filesystem-backed pages. This could be triggered by using sendfile() to send data from a file over a TCP socket, resulting in a kernel panic.
