CVE-2024-26656 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel AMDGPU DRM driver. The amdgpu_gem_userptr_ioctl path can accept an invalid user-space address and size combination that causes amdgpu_hmm_register() to fail during MMU interval notifier registration, including overflow validation. Despite that failure, subsequent GEM object cleanup invokes amdgpu_hmm_unregister(), attempting to remove or access an uninitialized or invalid notifier state. The fix prevents unregister cleanup from operating on HMM registration state when registration did not complete successfully.
