CVE-2024-26921 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel IPv4 fragmentation and reassembly path, inet_defrag. When IP fragments are reassembled in the transmit/output path, ip_defrag() could orphan an skb and release its associated socket while downstream output-path processing still uses skb->sk. This can occur with fragment reassembly invoked by netfilter or similar transmit-pipeline components, including Open vSwitch and connection-tracking action processing. The fix defers skb orphaning until it is known that the skb will remain queued, preserves the socket reference for a completed reassembly queue by transferring it to the reassembled head skb, and corrects socket write-memory accounting.
