CVE-2024-27903 is a vulnerability in the OpenVPN plug-in loading mechanism on Windows affecting OpenVPN 2.6.9 and earlier. The flaw allows OpenVPN plug-ins to be loaded from an arbitrary directory rather than being restricted to a trusted location. As a result, an attacker who can satisfy the necessary preconditions can cause a malicious plug-in to be loaded and then use that plug-in to interact with the privileged OpenVPN interactive service. In Windows attack chains, this behavior can be leveraged toward remote code execution by combining it with other OpenVPN issues. The weakness is consistent with uncontrolled search path behavior in the loading of executable components.
