CVE-2024-29025 is an uncontrolled resource-allocation vulnerability in Netty's HTTP codec. HttpPostRequestDecoder does not impose limits on the number of form fields accumulated in its internal bodyListHttpData collection. An attacker can submit a chunked HTTP POST request containing numerous small form fields, causing unbounded growth of retained decoded form data. The decoder can also accumulate data in its undecodedChunk buffer until a field can be decoded, without a limit on the data accumulated for that field. Disk-backed item storage, where configured, does not limit the number of retained fields.
