CVE-2024-35809 is a race condition in the Linux kernel PCI power-management removal path. During PCI driver removal, pci_device_remove() invokes pm_runtime_get_sync(), but that operation does not wait for an already executing .runtime_idle() callback. Consequently, a runtime-idle callback can continue concurrently with driver teardown. This was observed in the rtsx_pcr PCI driver, where the concurrency leads to an unhandled page fault and kernel crash. The upstream fix invokes pm_runtime_barrier() after pm_runtime_get_sync() in pci_device_remove(), while the runtime PM usage count prevents new runtime-PM callbacks, thereby draining an in-progress runtime-idle callback before driver removal proceeds.
