CVE-2024-36903 is a race condition in the Linux kernel IPv6 networking path in __ip6_make_skb(). The function tested the socket HDRINCL state rather than checking FLOWI_FLAG_KNOWN_NH in flowi6_flags. Concurrent state changes could consequently cause use of an uninitialized value during IPv6 socket-buffer construction. The upstream fix replaces the socket HDRINCL test with a FLOWI_FLAG_KNOWN_NH check, matching the corresponding IPv4 correction.
