CVE-2024-36917 is an integer-overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel block layer's blk_ioctl_discard() function. The function did not validate overflow when calculating the end of a discard range as start plus len. An attacker able to submit a discard ioctl with specially chosen large range values can cause this arithmetic calculation to wrap. The upstream fix adds overflow validation for the requested discard range.
