CVE-2024-36933 is an improper socket-buffer state restoration flaw in the Linux kernel Network Service Header (NSH) Generic Segmentation Offload path. In nsh_gso_segment(), segmentation of encapsulated traffic could leave skb->data positioned at the NSH header rather than the outer header and could restore skb->mac_header and skb->network_header using offsets invalidated when lower-layer segmentation shifted linear-buffer data. Nested NSH-over-Ethernet encapsulation can also cause header pulling from the middle of an outer header. The corrected implementation derives the outer-header position relative to the inner header and restores the socket buffer data pointer, MAC-header pointer, and protocol to the outer-header state after segmentation.
