CVE-2024-36952 is an incomplete-cleanup race in the Linux kernel SCSI lpfc Fibre Channel driver during deletion of an NPIV virtual port. The cleanup sequence could invoke fc_remove_host() and scsi_remove_host() before transmitting the final Remove All DA_ID Common Transport request and LOGO Extended Link Service request to the Fibre Channel fabric. Host removal can process dev_loss_tmo for fabric device identifiers, release the final ndlp reference, and free the associated remote-port object. This can cause the required DA_ID and LOGO operations to be skipped, leaving the fabric switch with stale state indicating that the deleted NPIV virtual port remains logged in. The fix defers host and transport unregistration until after the DA_ID and LOGO messages have been sent.
