CVE-2024-38112 is an actively exploited spoofing vulnerability in the Microsoft Windows MSHTML Platform. Exploitation abused Internet shortcut files and the MHTML protocol handler, including x-usc directives, to invoke the still-present but disabled Internet Explorer/MSHTML execution path and access and run attacker-controlled content. Void Banshee used the issue as a zero-day in delivery chains for Atlantida Stealer. Although classified as spoofing, observed exploitation enabled a multi-stage code-execution chain in the context of the logged-on user.
