CVE-2024-38808 is a denial-of-service vulnerability in Spring Framework affecting versions 5.3.0 through 5.3.38, as well as older unsupported versions. The issue arises when an application evaluates attacker-controlled Spring Expression Language (SpEL) expressions. A specially crafted user-supplied expression can trigger excessive processing in the SpEL evaluation path and cause the application to become unavailable. The vulnerability is only present in applications that accept and evaluate untrusted SpEL input.
