CVE-2024-40791 is a privacy vulnerability in Apple platforms in which insufficient redaction of private data in log entries could allow an application to access information about a user’s contacts. The issue affected Apple operating systems prior to iOS 17.7, iPadOS 17.7, iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia 15, macOS Sonoma 14.7, and macOS Ventura 13.7. Apple addressed the flaw by improving private data redaction for log entries, indicating the exposure stemmed from sensitive contact-related information being written to logs in a form accessible to apps.
