CVE-2024-40890 is a post-authentication command injection vulnerability in the CGI program of legacy Zyxel DSL CPE firmware affecting Zyxel VMG4325-B10A firmware version 1.00(AAFR.4)C0_20170615. An authenticated attacker can send a crafted HTTP POST request to the device’s web management interface and inject operating system commands for execution on the underlying system. Reporting around the issue also associates exploitation with privileged service accounts such as supervisor or zyuser and indicates the flaw is part of a broader set of actively exploited Zyxel CPE command-injection issues affecting end-of-life devices. Successful exploitation results in arbitrary OS command execution on the appliance and can lead to full compromise of the device.
