CVE-2024-41040 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel traffic-control connection-tracking action (act_ct). When conntrack confirmation resolves a connection-tracking clash, the referenced conntrack object can be dropped and freed. The packet-processing path nevertheless passes the stale connection-tracking pointer to tcf_ct_flow_table_process_conn() for further processing. The fix reacquires the conntrack reference from the packet after conntrack confirmation, preventing subsequent use of a freed object.
