CVE-2024-41090 is an improper input-validation vulnerability in the Linux kernel TAP XDP receive path. The affected path did not verify that a supplied frame was at least the Ethernet-header length before setting network-header metadata and transmitting the skb downstack. A short frame can therefore produce inconsistent skb header metadata or cause downstream code to access data beyond the actual frame length. The corrected implementation drops frames shorter than the Ethernet header, matching the validation already present in the alternate TAP receive path.
