CVE-2024-42090 is a deadlock vulnerability in the Linux kernel pin control subsystem. In create_pinctrl(), pinctrl_maps_mutex is held while add_setting() is called. When add_setting() returns -EPROBE_DEFER, create_pinctrl() invokes pinctrl_free(), which attempts to acquire the same non-recursive pinctrl_maps_mutex. This recursive lock acquisition can deadlock the affected execution path. The fix releases pinctrl_maps_mutex before calling pinctrl_free().
