CVE-2024-42114 is an improper-input-validation vulnerability in the Linux kernel Wi-Fi cfg80211 subsystem. cfg80211 did not sufficiently restrict values supplied through the NL80211_ATTR_TXQ_QUANTUM netlink attribute. Supplying an excessively large quantum value, demonstrated with 2^31, can cause mac80211 fair-queue transmit-queue processing to run for an excessive period and trigger a watchdog-reported kernel soft lockup. The upstream correction restricts accepted TXQ quantum values.
