CVE-2024-42284 is a buffer-overflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel Transparent Inter-Process Communication (TIPC) subsystem. The TIPC UDP media-address conversion routine, tipc_udp_addr2str(), incorrectly returns success when supplied an invalid UDP media address. Its caller, tipc_media_addr_printf(), consequently continues processing under invalid assumptions and can perform a buffer-overflow access. The fix makes tipc_udp_addr2str() return a nonzero error status for invalid UDP media addresses.
