CVE-2024-42292 is an out-of-bounds memory-access vulnerability in the Linux kernel's kobject_uevent functionality. The zap_modalias_env() function incorrectly calculates the size of a memory block passed to memmove() when MODALIAS is not the final variable in its environment parameter. This incorrect length causes memory access outside the intended bounds. The fix corrects the size supplied to memmove().

An out-of-bounds memory access vulnerability in the Linux kernel's kobject_uevent functionality. Incorrect memory-move size calculation in zap_modalias_env() triggers the issue when MODALIAS is not the last environment variable. The reference assigns a CVSS v3 score of 7.1, indicating local exploitation requiring low privileges, with high confidentiality and availability impacts.
A high-severity Linux kernel out-of-bounds memory-access vulnerability in kobject_uevent's zap_modalias_env() function. It affects Google COS kernel packages including sys-kernel/csql-kernel-6_1 and sys-kernel/lakitu-kernel-6_1 before version 18244.236.5.
A locally exploitable vulnerability requiring low privileges that can result in high confidentiality impact and high availability impact, according to the supplied CVSS v3 vector.
An out-of-bounds access vulnerability in the Linux kernel kobject uevent zap_modalias_env() function.
