CVE-2024-44068 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the m2m1shot_scaler0 device driver for Samsung Exynos mobile and wearable processors (9820, 9825, 980, 990, 850, W920) running Android prior to the October 2024 Security Maintenance Release. The flaw arises from improper reference count management when mapping PFNMAP pages for I/O via the M2M1SHOT_IOC_PROCESS IOCTL, allowing attackers to free pages while still mapped, leading to kernel memory corruption. This can be exploited to overwrite kernel page table entries and achieve arbitrary code execution in privileged processes such as cameraserver. The vulnerability has been observed in the wild as part of a broader exploit chain.
