CVE-2024-47619 is a certificate validation flaw in syslog-ng affecting versions prior to 4.8.2. The issue is in tls_wildcard_match(), which incorrectly accepts invalid wildcard patterns in certificate name matching. Specifically, it matches certificates containing disallowed wildcard constructions such as multi-label wildcards and partial wildcards, which should not be considered valid for hostname verification. This weakens TLS peer identity validation and can cause syslog-ng to trust a certificate that does not legitimately match the intended host.
