CVE-2024-49949 is an integer-underflow vulnerability in the Linux kernel networking function qdisc_pkt_len_init() when estimating packet lengths for UDP Fragmentation Offload (UFO). A userspace-crafted IPv4 SKB_GSO_UDP packet with gso_size=3 and skb->len=28 has a combined IPv4 and UDP header length equal to its total length. Consequently, DIV_ROUND_UP(skb->len - hdr_len, shinfo->gso_size) calculates zero GSO segments. The subsequent adjustment using (gso_segs - 1) * hdr_len underflows and reduces the accounted packet length to zero. This invalid accounting can trigger a NULL-pointer dereference in fq_codel_enqueue(), crashing the kernel. The malformed packet became accepted following a change to transport-header accounting in virtio_net_hdr_to_skb().

A Linux kernel networking vulnerability allows a local attacker to craft a UDP fragmentation offload packet that causes incorrect packet-length accounting in qdisc_pkt_len_init(), leading to a kernel crash and denial of service. The advisory rates it Medium, with a CVSS v3 base score of 5.5, requiring low privileges and affecting availability without stated confidentiality or integrity impact. Google Container-Optimized OS kernel packages are affected; the prescribed fix is updating to version 18613.75.4 or later.
A Linux kernel local denial-of-service vulnerability in network queueing/GSO packet-length handling. A local authenticated attacker able to submit malformed UFO/GSO packets can trigger an integer underflow and kernel NULL-pointer dereference in fq_codel, crashing the kernel.
A potential integer underflow in Linux kernel network qdisc packet-length initialization when using UFO.
Linux kernel networking flaw involving a potential underflow in qdisc_pkt_len_init() when UFO is used.
