CVE-2024-53150 is an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the Linux kernel ALSA USB-audio driver during traversal of USB audio clock descriptors. The flaw is caused by missing validation of the descriptor bLength field when parsing clock-related descriptors. If a malicious or malformed USB audio device presents a descriptor shorter than expected, the driver may read beyond the bounds of the descriptor while attempting to locate or process clock source information. The issue affects handling of clock source and clock multiplier descriptors, as well as clock selector descriptors in UAC2 and UAC3, where additional length checks are required because of variable-length input pin arrays and trailing fields. The fix adds sanity checks to the validator functions so undersized descriptors are skipped instead of being parsed.
