Invoice Ninja before 5.10.43 is vulnerable to remote code execution through a pre-authentication route when an attacker knows the Laravel APP_KEY. The unauthenticated /route/{hash} endpoint defined in invoiceninja/routes/client.php passes the attacker-controlled {hash} parameter to Laravel's decrypt() function. In Laravel, decrypt() expects a valid encrypted value and, by default, unserializes the decrypted plaintext. If the attacker possesses the APP_KEY, they can forge a valid Laravel-encrypted payload containing a serialized PHP object. Where a usable gadget chain is present in the application’s loaded libraries, this unsafe deserialization can be turned into code execution. The issue is exacerbated by .env files distributed with default APP_KEY values that may be reused in production deployments.

This repository contains a single Metasploit module targeting CVE-2024-55555, a critical unauthenticated remote code execution vulnerability in Invoice Ninja (versions 5.8.22 through 5.10.10). The exploit leverages insecure PHP deserialization via the '/route/<hash>' endpoint, provided the attacker knows or can brute-force the Laravel APP_KEY. The module supports both PHP and Unix/Linux command payloads, allowing for reverse shells or Meterpreter sessions. The code is written in Ruby and follows standard Metasploit module structure, with options for specifying the target URI, APP_KEY, and a brute-force file for APP_KEYs. The main attack vector is network-based, exploiting a web endpoint. The module is weaponized, allowing for customizable payloads and automated exploitation through the Metasploit framework.

A PHP deserialization vulnerability in Invoice Ninja that can lead to remote code execution if the attacker knows the APP_KEY.
Pre-authentication remote code execution in Invoice Ninja via Laravel decrypt() misuse when the APP_KEY is known, allowing attacker-controlled serialized payloads to be decrypted and unserialized.
