CVE-2024-56616 is an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the Linux kernel DRM DisplayPort Multi-Stream Transport (MST) sideband-message handling. The MST sideband message body-length validation permitted a body length of zero even though at least one byte is required for the message body CRC. A malformed response from an MST branch device with a valid header CRC and a zero body length can subsequently cause an index of -1 and an oversized copy operation in drm_dp_sideband_append_payload(), resulting in kernel memory corruption.
