CVE-2024-57726 is a missing authorization vulnerability in SimpleHelp remote support software affecting version 5.5.7 and earlier, with broader vendor remediation guidance indicating affected branches prior to 5.5.8, 5.4.10, and 5.3.9. The flaw stems from missing backend authorization checks in certain administrative or API key management functions. A low-privileged technician account can invoke functionality that should be restricted to higher-privileged roles and create API keys with excessive permissions, including server administrator-level rights. By abusing these overprivileged API keys, an attacker can escalate from a standard technician role to the SimpleHelp server admin role. The vulnerability breaks intended role-based access controls and can serve as a stepping stone for further compromise of the SimpleHelp environment.
