CVE-2024-57981 is a NULL pointer dereference in the Linux kernel xHCI USB host-controller driver, in command-ring stopped-command handling. When a command is queued in the final usable TRB of a ring segment, then aborted, abort completion can leave the command-ring enqueue and dequeue pointers unequal despite there being no pending command. xhci_handle_stopped_cmd_ring() incorrectly interprets this state as a pending command and invokes xhci_mod_cmd_timer() with a NULL cur_cmd pointer, causing a kernel crash. The upstream correction avoids command-timer setup when cur_cmd is NULL. The flaw was introduced in Linux kernel 3.16.
