CVE-2024-58136 affects Yii 2 before 2.0.52 and is described as an improper protection of alternate path / input validation flaw that mishandles attachment of behaviors defined via an __class array key. The issue is a regression of CVE-2024-4990. In observed exploitation against applications using Yii, notably Craft CMS, attackers used the flaw in a second-stage payload: after a separate bug caused attacker-controlled PHP content to be written into a session file, a malicious JSON payload leveraging Yii's behavior attachment and object instantiation logic triggered execution of PHP code from that session file. The vulnerability was reported as exploited in the wild from February through April 2025 and was fixed in Yii 2.0.52 on 2025-04-09.

What an attacker gets, and what they’ve been doing with it.
If you can’t patch tonight, do this now.
__class and anomalous POST activity associated with the observed Craft CMS chain. Restrict write/execute paths for web-accessible PHP files where possible, harden session storage handling, and use WAF or reverse-proxy rules to block known exploit patterns. If compromise is suspected, refresh application security keys and rotate database and other sensitive credentials.Patch, then assume compromise.
