CVE-2024-6242 is a high-severity authorization bypass vulnerability affecting select Rockwell Automation Logix devices using the Trusted Slot feature in a 1756 ControlLogix chassis. The flaw allows a threat actor to bypass chassis slot restrictions intended to limit which modules can issue trusted operations to the controller. Successful exploitation on an affected module enables unauthorized Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) command execution against the Logix controller in the chassis, which can be used to modify user projects and device configuration. The issue undermines a security boundary designed to constrain controller access from chassis-resident modules.
