CVE-2024-8186 is a medium-severity HTML injection vulnerability in GitLab Community Edition and Enterprise Edition affecting self-hosted instances. It affects versions from 16.6 before 17.7.6, 17.8 before 17.8.4, and 17.9 before 17.9.1. The flaw allows an attacker to inject HTML into the child item search functionality. In certain situations, the injected markup can be rendered in a way that leads to cross-site scripting, causing attacker-controlled script execution in another user’s browser within the GitLab application context.
