CVE-2025-12972 is a path traversal vulnerability in Fluent Bit's out_file output plugin. When the File option is not explicitly configured, the plugin derives the output filename from the record tag. Because tag values are not properly sanitized before being used in path construction, an attacker who can influence tag contents can inject traversal sequences such as "../" and cause Fluent Bit to write files outside the intended output directory. The flaw is therefore an arbitrary file write/overwrite condition rooted in unsafe use of untrusted tag input for filename generation.

A path traversal flaw in Fluent Bit’s File output plugin where attacker-controlled tags can influence file paths (notably when File key is not defined), enabling arbitrary/unsafe file writes and potentially leading to remote code execution in some environments.
A path traversal flaw in Fluent Bit where unsanitized tag values are used to build output filenames, enabling arbitrary file write/overwrite that can lead to log tampering and potentially remote code execution.
Path traversal / arbitrary file write in Fluent Bit out_file output when attacker-controlled Tag is used to generate filenames, potentially leading to log tampering and remote code execution depending on configuration.
A path traversal / arbitrary file overwrite issue in Fluent Bit caused by unsanitized tag values used in filename generation, potentially leading to log tampering and remote code execution.
