CVE-2025-15469 is a data integrity flaw in the OpenSSL command-line tool's 'openssl dgst' handling of one-shot signing algorithms. In OpenSSL 3.5 and 3.6, when 'openssl dgst' is used with algorithms that only support one-shot signing, including Ed25519, Ed448, ML-DSA-44, ML-DSA-65, and ML-DSA-87, the tool buffers input with a 16 MB limit. If the supplied input exceeds that limit, the command silently truncates processing to the first 16 MB and still reports success instead of returning an error. This behavior contradicts expected tool semantics and creates an integrity gap: signatures and verifications performed through the same affected code path may appear valid even though trailing data beyond 16 MB was never authenticated. The issue is limited to the command-line tool behavior and does not affect streaming digest algorithms in 'openssl dgst' or library consumers that process the full message.
