CVE-2025-20338 is a local privilege escalation vulnerability in the CLI of Cisco IOS XE Software. The flaw is caused by insufficient validation of user-supplied arguments passed to specific CLI commands. An authenticated local attacker with valid administrative privileges can supply crafted command arguments at the CLI prompt and trigger execution of arbitrary commands on the underlying operating system with root privileges. The issue affects the boundary between the IOS XE CLI and the underlying OS command handling, enabling elevation from administrative device access to full root-level execution on the host system.
