CVE-2025-20363 is a heap-based buffer overflow in the web services components of Cisco Secure Firewall Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software, Cisco Secure Firewall Threat Defense (FTD) Software, Cisco IOS Software, Cisco IOS XE Software, and Cisco IOS XR Software. The flaw is caused by improper validation of user-supplied input in HTTP requests, which can result in insufficient heap allocation followed by an out-of-bounds write of attacker-controlled data. The resulting heap memory corruption can be leveraged to execute arbitrary code on the affected device. On Cisco ASA and FTD, exploitation is possible by an unauthenticated remote attacker through the exposed vulnerable web service. On Cisco IOS, IOS XE, and IOS XR, exploitation requires authenticated remote access with low user privileges. Successful exploitation can result in arbitrary code execution as root and may lead to complete compromise of the device. Available reporting also indicates exploitation may require target-specific information disclosure, mitigation bypass, or both.
