CVE-2025-21247 is a security feature bypass vulnerability in the Windows MapUrlToZone component caused by improper resolution of path equivalence. The flaw allows Windows to incorrectly determine the security zone associated with a resource when equivalent path representations are used, which can undermine trust and origin-based protections that rely on accurate zone classification. By abusing this path handling weakness over a network, an attacker can cause content to be treated as if it originated from a less restrictive or more trusted zone than intended, bypassing security controls enforced through MapUrlToZone.
