CVE-2025-21714 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel RDMA mlx5 driver’s implicit On-Demand Paging (ODP) memory-region teardown path. A race can cause invalidation of the same implicit ODP memory region more than once, queueing its destruction work twice. The first work item frees the memory region; a subsequently executed duplicate work item can then access the freed object, producing reference-count underflow and use-after-free conditions. The fix uses an atomic XArray compare-and-exchange operation to ensure destruction is initiated only once for a given memory region.
