CVE-2025-22224 is a critical vulnerability in VMware ESXi and VMware Workstation in the Virtual Machine Communication Interface (VMCI). The flaw is a time-of-check time-of-use race condition that can result in an out-of-bounds write in the VMX process context on the host. An attacker who already has local administrative privileges inside a guest virtual machine can exploit the race to corrupt memory and achieve code execution as the virtual machine’s VMX process running on the host. The issue is significant because it breaks the expected isolation boundary between guest and host and can be used as part of a broader virtual machine escape chain.
