CVE-2025-22226 is an information disclosure vulnerability in VMware ESXi, VMware Workstation, and VMware Fusion caused by an out-of-bounds read in HGFS, the Host-Guest File System component. A malicious actor with administrative privileges inside a guest virtual machine can trigger the flaw to read memory beyond intended bounds and disclose contents from the VMX process. The vulnerability is significant because VMX is the virtual machine execution process on the host side, and leaked memory can expose sensitive runtime information useful for further exploitation. Reporting on in-the-wild activity indicates this flaw has been used as the information-leak stage in exploit chains targeting VMware virtualization products, including chains intended to facilitate guest-to-host escape.
