CVE-2025-23120 is a critical remote code execution vulnerability in Veeam Backup & Replication affecting version 12.x builds up to and including 12.3.0.310, specifically in domain-joined deployments. The issue is rooted in insecure deserialization in Veeam’s .NET Remoting interface exposed over TCP port 9401. According to the provided content, Veeam relied on a blocklist-based approach for deserialization controls, but certain classes, including Veeam.Backup.EsxManager.xmlFrameworkDs and Veeam.Backup.Core.BackupSummary, were not properly blocked, and CDbCryptoKeyInfo enabled inner deserialization. An authenticated domain user can send a crafted serialized payload to the vulnerable remoting service and achieve arbitrary code execution on the backup server.
