CVE-2025-23150 is an off-by-one flaw in the Linux kernel ext4 filesystem's do_split directory-entry splitting logic. While iterating backward through directory-entry mappings, the index can reach -1 when active entries do not exceed half of a directory block. Incorrect split handling can subsequently cause an out-of-bounds access in ext4_insert_dentry, producing a use-after-free during directory-entry insertion. The condition was observed by Syzkaller while creating a symbolic link in a directory block containing many long-name entries.
