CVE-2025-27505 affects GeoServer, an open source geospatial data server. The vulnerability is caused by incomplete path protection in the default REST API security configuration: authorization rules cover /rest and its subpaths, but do not properly match requests to the REST endpoint when an extension suffix is appended, such as /rest.html. As a result, an unauthenticated requester can bypass the intended REST API access control for the index page. The exposed REST index can reveal information about the GeoServer instance, including whether specific extensions are installed. The issue is fixed in GeoServer versions 2.26.3 and 2.25.6.
