CVE-2025-37861 is a Linux kernel vulnerability in the SCSI mpi3mr driver caused by improper synchronization between the reset thread and the task management thread while accessing reply queues. During controller reset handling, the reset path can invalidate a reply queue identifier by setting it to a sentinel value, while the task management thread continues processing and dereferences that invalid queue identifier. This results in access to unallocated memory and can crash the kernel. The upstream fix introduces an io_admin_reset_sync synchronization flag to coordinate reset, I/O, and admin thread activity, block processing during reset, and wait for in-flight processing to quiesce before queue reset proceeds.
