CVE-2025-38000 is a memory-safety vulnerability in the Linux kernel Hierarchical Fair Service Curve traffic-control scheduler (sch_hfsc). In hfsc_enqueue(), when the first packet is enqueued to an HFSC class, the scheduler invoked the child queueing discipline's peek() operation before incrementing its own queue-length and backlog counters. A child qdisc using qdisc_peek_dequeued() can dequeue or drop the packet during peek(), causing backlog reduction while HFSC accounting remains stale. This inconsistent state can leave an empty HFSC class in the active list and can subsequently result in a use-after-free. The fix updates HFSC queue-length and backlog accounting before invoking the child qdisc's peek() operation.
