CVE-2025-38453 is a use-after-free vulnerability in the Linux kernel's io_uring msg_ring implementation. Deferred or local task_work submission can reference an io_kiocb request after it has been freed. Unlike ordinary requests, msg_ring requests manage their own allocation and deallocation, allowing a request to be freed while it remains visible to another ring. KASAN detected the invalid access in the task-work submission path. The fix adds an rcu_head and uses kfree_rcu() at both affected deallocation sites, particularly io_msg_tw_complete(), to defer freeing until RCU readers can no longer access the request.

A Linux kernel io_uring/msg_ring vulnerability addressed by deferring io_kiocb freeing for RCU. Affected Rocky Linux 10.1 kernel packages have security updates under CIQ advisory crlsa-2026_1690.
A Linux kernel io_uring msg_ring use-after-free condition involving io_kiocb request lifetime and RCU-safe deferred freeing. KASAN can detect the invalid access. The issue was resolved by deferring request freeing with kfree_rcu().
