CVE-2025-38461 is a time-of-check/time-of-use race in the Linux kernel vsock subsystem. Transport assignment can race with unloading of a vsock transport module, allowing the new_transport reference to become stale. Subsequent use during vsock connection handling, including the vsock_assign_transport path, can dereference the stale pointer and cause a KASAN-detected kernel page fault. The fix synchronizes transport assignment against module unloading, protects the new_transport reference, corrects an unsafe call in vsock_use_local_transport(), and adds a lockdep assertion.
