CVE-2025-40135 is a Linux kernel vulnerability in the IPv6 networking subsystem. The flaw is associated with ip6_xmit(), where device access in the destination path was not adequately protected against concurrent lifetime changes. The issue was resolved by changing ip6_xmit() to use RCU so that dst_dev_rcu() can be used, preventing a possible use-after-free condition. In practical terms, the bug is a race in the IPv6 transmit path that can result in dereferencing a freed object during packet transmission, leading to kernel memory safety violations.
