CVE-2025-40176 is a memory-lifetime vulnerability in the Linux kernel TLS subsystem. Asynchronous decryption uses tls_strp_msg_hold() to clone the input socket buffer (skb), retaining references to memory needed by pending decryption operations. If clone allocation fails, continuing asynchronous decryption without waiting for outstanding requests can cause use-after-free of the skb or writes into userspace memory after recv() returns. The fix waits for all pending decryption requests when tls_strp_msg_hold() fails.
