CVE-2025-40596 is a high-severity stack-based buffer overflow in the web management interface of SonicWall SMA 100 Series appliances, including SMA 210, SMA 410, and SMA 500v. The flaw is present in the appliance's httpd process, which handles incoming web requests, and is reachable prior to authentication. Available reporting indicates the vulnerability is caused by incorrect use of the sscanf function while parsing parts of a web address, allowing a malformed request to overwrite stack memory. A successful trigger can crash the service and may, under favorable conditions, permit code execution.
